About RangeGuessr
RangeGuessr is a daily wildlife geography game. Each day you are presented with an animal and you guess its location and conservation status. The closer your guess, the more points you score.
How to Play
In daily mode, you are given one animal per day. Play daily to keep your streak and share your results with your friends. With free play, you can play an unlimited number of rounds. Try it out and see what animals you can discover!
Scoring
The scoring is broken down into 2 parts: location and conservation. For location, you get 5,000 points for selecting within the range; with points decreasing as you get farther from the edges outside the range. With conservation, you get 5,000 points for getting the status correct and lose points the further away your guess is on the threat scale.

Why Did I Make This?
I have always enjoyed learning more about animals and I love maps, so I thought this would be a fun game. Plus, I think it can be a good way for people to learn more about the different animals on our planet. So many animals are facing extinction from pollution, habitat loss, climate change, and other factors. Hopefully, you enjoy playing and learning!
Where Is the Data From?
Species data is from GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility), and the image credits are listed below each image. The base map boundaries are from Natural Earth. The habitat range polygons are simplified for game play and are approximate. Though I aim to have them be as accurate as possible, they are not going to be a replacement for a scientific range map and should be treated as general representations of the habitat.
Support
RangeGuessr is free to play. Any donations go towards site maintenance and improvements and wildlife conservation. Currently, 50% is split between donations to the IUCN Red List and American Bird Conservancy. RangeGuessr is not partnered with either of these groups. Back to the game →
